Snow is coming!

It felt good today to finally get all of that off my chest. I was worried not only for my ownself but for the overall good of all those around me. I still think there is going to be some trouble but this should at least help the everyday things get better and better.

Taking the time to figure out what I like and don’t like didn’t take as long as I thought it would, I still have some media cleaning to do but overall today was a good day. I think I’ve got to get past the point where I think that I have to finish everything all the time. Roll with it…

There’s snow coming soon, they say 4-8″ but honestly I hope there is more. A foot would be nice. It’s not that I want to see people stranded or hurt. I don’t. I don’t want to be stuck in the house for days at a time but I miss winters when we would get so much snow that it seemed like the whole world stopped. Like we all just took a few days to sit back, relax, and just be together. It’s supposed to start in about 36 hours. We’ll see what happens.

I was just remembering how informative that I used to be on here. I had weather, news, sports, whatever else was going on in the world. I wonder if the direction that I went was better or not. Just typing, getting words on paper. Should I focus and structure more? Should I analyze less maybe.
1,000 words. Per day. Is it possible?

Yet again, new tools to try to aid me in completing a goal I probably only half-heartedly believe in. I set a limit of 1,000 words, a limit that seems so long but yet at the same time it’s something that I believe I should be able to do without even trying. I wonder if I should go back to tracking what I do and what happens in a given day:
Work: 950 inches, about 7.5 hours.
Food: (Breakfast)D-Light sandwich without the egg, (Lunch)Chicken and Wild Rice Soup, bread and butter, (Dinner)Tacos: 1 beef, 1 sausage and egg, both with beans and cheese.
Notable events: New employee starting soon, tax return date received, health insurance info sent off and should be active soon.

Is that something that I should be keeping track of? Is there going to come a day in the far distant future that I wonder about things like that? There has been a time when I wanted to track all of that, long before the JustinTV stuff or any of the other constant life monitoring stuff or the lifestream stuff, I wanted to be in the Truman Show or on EdTV. I want the world to see and know what I did, I didn’t think my view or experience was superior only that maybe I could help bring some understanding to those around me and maybe those far off. The human experience is a lonely one filled with lots of people all around you having their only lonely experience. One day there could be a way to unify them, I have no idea how.

Nearly there now.

I know hardly anything about prepositions and that’s probably not a good thing. Grammar used to be important, somewhere along the line someone let me write how I speak. I remember having big problems with English as a subject in school, incredibly I passed time after time because I found the patterns that let me slide by. Even through college I skated by. Writing how you speak; that’s a horrid way to express yourself with words. Speech is dead.

There used to be a time when I could sit and write, when I could write about nothing. Now is that time. Unfortunately though, I don’t think lately I have anything to say, I just want to say something.

The snow is still coming, I’m excited.

I listening to a sermon about fear. I never listen to sermons but this one is different. I’m scared from time to time, but mostly I fear inadequacy. Letting people around me down, letting people see that I’m fallible, that I can’t carry the load I’ve taken on, seeing my weakness is that I try to be too strong.
I read (skimmed) and article yesterday about personal mission statements and person statements of direction and figuring out where you are going and why. It’s probably something I should read again.

Tried starting to read (listen to) The Catcher in the Rye yesterday, just couldn’t get into it, loved reading it back in the day. I felt so rebellious, so above the rest of the crowd who hadn’t discovered it yet. Now I just feel like it’s something I’m trying to consume completely and quickly without regard for the contents.

So much of the world is that way now, just consume it, take it all in without ever taking any of it in and considering the consequences.

My music selections lately have been wonderful. Sometimes you just have to accept that your music isn’t going to be popular with everyone around you but if it makes a differce to you then it’s worth listening to.

I need to clean up the clutter.

There’s so much I need to do. So much to take care of. So much to just put my head down, plow through and get done.

There’s so much and yet I have nothing to do. I should get back to work, I almost made it but even as I fill it in here and there, I’m just going to fall a little bit short again.

iPhone news o’ the day

I was going to post about this, iPhone nano chip order coming soon and released in June? But instead, I’m posting this, far more important story:

Chipotle’s Mobile Ordering App For Magic iPhone Burritos
Even if I didn’t like Chipotle, I would still eat there based purely on the fact that their new app allows me to order my burrito from the comfort of my iPhone.

Chipotle Mobile Ordering builds upon their already substantial online ordering system by allowing iPhone and iPod Touch owners to find locations, customize their orders, save their favorites and pay for everything while on the go.

via App Store: Chipotle’s Mobile Ordering App For Magic iPhone Burritos.

I was about to download this thing, then upon reading further:

On the negative side, it appears that the app has been taken down from the store (temporarily at least). Several users on MacRumors forums claim that the app was extremely buggy, which may or may not be to blame for the sudden disappearance.

I’m ready for this! I want to walk up, grab my burrito in a bag and walk away, no cash, no talking, just a burrito in a bag.

iPhone nano? Meh, I have the 3G, its a fine size, plenty of room for my media that I need and I have grown accustomed to everything on it. As a matter of fact, given the chance to choose another phone, I’m not sure I could, I use too many of the apps and features on a regular basis. The iPhone nano can only be a smaller iPhone, not a less feature-rich one, or simply a phone with iPod capability (ROKR, etc.) or it will fail miserably, as it has before.

A pledge

We have enough political crap around us now on TV, the Internet, the radio, podcasts, newspapers, magazines, and every other kind of media out there to make most of us sick.

I definitely have an opinion on the coming Presidential election this November, I have a stand on the issues and I’m pretty sure that I have made my decision on a candidate. This post and possibly two more are all I will post before November 4th (I have one started and assume one more will come to mind later).

I ask most importantly, no matter which side of the aisle you vote for, that you vote FOR someone not against them. All too often I head people disparaging a candidate, “Obama’s a terrorist, McCain is too old,” and never give a reason why I should like their chosen side better. How about a campaign that says this is who I am, this is who I am not, and this is what I’ll do? Not a campaign that is about, this is what he/she is and this is what he/she will not do. I don’t like one of the candidates already, I made that decision by looking at his credentials, attitudes, and overall outlook on things. Dear Mr. Other Candidate: You’d better start telling me who you and what you’ll do, instead of bashing the guy I already don’t like.

I want a campaign season that is about the people running in it, not about the people they are running against.

So when you are having those water cooler talks today, tomorrow, and for the next 50 or so days until November 4, 2008, remember to speak positively about your candidate instead of negatively about the other guy.

I got a little wind in my sails

Kyle made a comment on a post, it was short and probably made in jest… For some reason I just needed to go off and make my feelings known. Here’s the text, be mindful that the facts are not quite right and there is a ton of opinion here. Thanks for letting me vent Kyle, don’t take it personally.

Oh I totally agree with you man, but you know from experience, how many fo them are technically apt enough to purchase one let alone actually use one? By forcing them to use the technology that they are legislating against perhaps they can gain at least some understanding of how they actions affect the rest of us.
Take this for example: If you go to a store that is broadcasting the radio over a loudspeaker, technically they are required to pay the RIAA a license fee if the music is copyrighted (all radio music is usually) in addition to the fee that radio stations pay to play the song, the RIAA is double dipping. Now I realize that the music is being played to create an atmosphere conducive to selling goods at a profit so therefore a license might be warranted, but what about non-copyrighted music?
Lets pretend that I own a music production studio, I create my own music via computers and real instruments. I also happen to own a chain or large retail outlets that collectively have about $1m per year in gross sales where I play my music for customers. Under the current rules I would still have to pay that license to the RIAA because there is a chance that RIAA (copyrighted) music could be played.
That is what I’m talking about, little rules that are out to screw just about everyone who comsumes any kind of media, whether it be the fact that recording your Tivo’d shows to DVD or making a backup copy of your own music or burning it to more than a couple mix CDs for your own personal use. All of those things are technically illegal, most are broken every day by most of us. Why can’t the laws be changed to stop favoring the companies and start giving people the benefit of the doubt? I realize piracy hurts everyone, artists included. But the $15 that I spend on a CD isn’t buying that artist a cheesebuger, it’s barely paying the tax on one.
The anti-piracy measures do one of several things, destroy the creation outside of its original form (the upgrade tax per se), like CDs that aren’t able to be copied for archive purposes (a right afforded us by US Code), or they are destructive to our property (the Sony rootkit scandal) where they install means of preventing piracy at the expense of our security and equipment’s well-being.
I’m totally against any copy protection, give people a chance, they will own up to what they should. There will always be bad elements of society but by respecting your customers and giving them what they want you will ultimately sell more product that what you are force feeding us now. I want a CD of songs I like, or at least the ability to pay for only the songs I like.

Any thoughts?

Friday 5: End of the workweek

1. What is your preferred trusted news source? Usually MSNBC.com but occasionally I watch CNN or something. Digg for tech though.
2. What is a news source that you will never trust? Fox News
3. What is the news topic during the last calendar year that you feel got the worst coverage? Sago mine incident, no one got it right and I blame the media for getting the families hopes up only to crush them. And Bush, most everything he did was spun, I hate spun news.
4. What news item do you feel got too much coverage in the last calendar year? Bush… All of him
5. If you had complete control of your favored news source(s) (answer to question 1), what would you do with it that is not already being done? More tech, smart tech though, also more stories with a happy ending… It happens sometimes.
