A good day of music at work

I got a new setup at work this week, more of a desktop situation than my former laptop thing. Basically I took my laptop, built a stand for my monitor to site on top of it, added a wireless keyboard and mouse and called it done.
Most of today I’ve been up and down from my desk, but the Party Shuffle on iTunes has been cranking out the jams when I am here. Here’s a bit that I heard this afternoon:

  • John Mellencamp – Jack and Diane
  • Jack Johnson – Upside Down
  • The Beatles – Penny Lane
  • Rascal Flatts – Mayberry
  • Montgomery Gentry – Hell Yeah
  • Brooks & Dunn – Only In America
  • Caedmon’s Call – Daring Daylight Escape
  • Guns N’ Roses – Patience
  • Jeremy Camp – Everything
  • Billy Joel – Captain Jack
  • Craig Morgan – I’m Country
  • Goo Goo Dolls – Better Days
  • Eve 6 – Here’s to the Night
  • Rascal Flatts – Kissable, Huggable

Sure it’s a throw back to popular music of the late nineties and early 2000’s but dangit those are some good songs. Mellencamp, Jack Johnson, The Beatles, Rascal Flatts, GnR, Billy Joel and you can’t forget the Goo Goo Dolls. How can you not love those people? I enjoyed my music today. Tomorrow I gotta remember a longer cord so I don’t have to hunch over the keyboard so much.

There’s a lot on my mind tonight

I’m running on a tea buzz from McAllister’s right now so I’ve stopped blinking for a bit. There is a lot on my mind tonight however and I really wanted to get some stuff down on proverbial paper.

Lyrics of the night:

And any time you feel the pain, hey, Jude, refrain
Don’t carry the world upon your shoulders
Well don’t you know that its a fool who plays it cool
By making his world a little colder

I listened to 3 different versions of that song tonight on the way home. I have no idea why but it felt great to scream out those lyrics at the top of my lungs, however unharmonic it may have been. It’s not about the music though, it’s about the meaning behind that music. So no matter your tonality, scream out those lyrics from time to time, you’ll be happy that you did.

At the end of the Jude-fest, this song came on:

It starts at my toes and I crinkle my nose
Where ever it goes I always know
That you make me smile
please stay for a while now
Just take your time where ever you go

It just has that Jack Johnson vibe to it with a great female voice. I have no idea why but I really love the rhythm and feeling of this song. It’s not what the song is about, it’s how the song makes me feel. Bubbly.

I just feel inspired tonight, but I have nothing to do. Is that even possible? Can you be inspired and not have anythign to do? Doesn’t the definition of inspiration have something to do with doing something? I’m full of vim, vigor, and vitality, but alas, I’m sitting here blogging song lyrics and watching The Office again. The good news is, I’m on disc 3 of 4 and I can free up some spots on my Netflix. Watching online is highly underrated.

I guess this is really one of those stream of consciousness posts again. I hope you enjoy them, I think I probably enjoy posting them more than about anything else.

News of the day…

So I’m cruising the ‘net today, working on nothign as usual… Some interesting stories came up today though, here’s a quick peek:

Curious George co-editor found dead: MSNBC

I think it’s a bit odd that just days before the release of the movie this man who helped write several books and many of the short films about Curious George is found dead in trash bags at his Florida home… Something is up here.
Related note:
The Jack Johnson Curious George soundtrack is pretty good, give it a listen.

Walmart to open over 1,500 new stores in the coming years: MSNBC

They opened 341 last year and are expecting more than that this year. When will it end. I seriously cannot stand to see Walmart in every community. Millions of square feet of empty Walmarts are vacant useless to so many communities around the country because Walmart left for a better deal. Millions of people are without adequate, affordable health-care because of Walmart. When will it end?

New Muncie curfew to hold parents responsible WTHR

Muncie isn’t a large town, but its a college town with plenty of mischief to be caused. For the youth of the city that isn’t yet in college a new law will make parents know a little more about what their children are doing. I know that if I was faced with a fine of up to $2,500 I would know exactly where my child was and when he was in the house. Exceptions have been made to allow for school and religious events. But I think it’s about time that cities got more strict about parents being responsible for their children.

Blogger thinks of starting new category Here

I think I’ll call it “Get off my lawn.” After the supposed stereotype of old men who yell at those “damn kids” to get off my lawn. My soapbox if you will… Any thoughts?
