8 years complete!

8 years ago I posted my first post. It wasn’t here, it was at LiveJournal, then I moved to BlogSpot and then to Blogger on my own domain, and finally to WordPress on my domain. Its hard to imagine not having this site for me. I use it all the time, I vent here, I weep here, I post random junk that no one else understands here.
I know I haven’t posted as often or as lengthy as I used to, I’m just realizing that being so busy all the time and not recording it is part of the reason why this isn’t a 10 year post, I want to get back to daily posts and might try to fill in with worthy news and links from time to time, otherwise it will still be sporadic short-ish posts and randomness. (That’s it! I’ll write a post about randomness and how I’m begining to hate the word random!)

It’s great to say I’ve been doing something for over 8 years, I hope you’ll continue to be around to see what happens in the future.

Evolution on the web

ev·o·lu·tion – A gradual process in which something changes into a different and usually more complex or better form.

Things must change, things must differ over time. In the 8 years and 135 days that I’ve been posting to this blog. I’ve written a lot. I’ve written very little too. Posts of pictures, quotes, links to sites that some of you don’t really care about are all things that I think have cluttered up this site at times. When I mo-blog from my phone it adds length to the site that really isn’t needed, when I post links to sites, I’m sure many of you just pass over the post without any regard for what content might be there.

Over the past few months I’ve thought about changing what I do here, how I do it and what kinds of other content I might like to do. I registered and hosted a new domain but wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with it. I played with new equipment, tools, and software. I looked at old and new technologies as well as ideas of things still in the pipeline.

I don’t want to get rid of this site. I definitely don’t want to delete it and start over. I want to expand it. I want to make it something on its own with supporting sites coming and going adding content and value. I started with the idea of another WordPress Blog, too much effort to keep up and post to, I went to a podcast, I even recorded one episode that has since go by the way side, way too much to record and post a show when I’m in a hurry. I wanted something quick to post from, like from my phone via SMS, MMS, or even a quick post from a website. I wanted multimedia capabilities, an attractive interface, and a simple design. I wanted light-weight blogging with little effort basically.

I’ve started a Tumblelog. I’m using the Tumblr service and software to basically create more of a stream of consciousness. I Tweet, I blog, now I’m going to put the things that are too long to tweet and too short or just not right for blogging there. Some call this a lifestream, a microblog, a nanoblog, lifelogging and who knows what else, it’s what I want to post at that moment. It’s quick, easy and not written over a long period of time. That’s what this site will remain for, long posts with true content. Not quick photos and quips and quotes.

What is the site you ask? Apartment721.com, there’s even a mobile version for those of you with iPhones, Blackberries and the like, Apartment721.com/mobile.

I’ll post semi-regularly (hopefully) and there will be links back to my tweets and blogs there. You might think of it as more of a central site for me, if you look there you’ll see my tumbl’s (?), tweets, and blog posts as they are all posted. Then you can click the posts to dig further. All in all I hope that this helps me put out more content in a way that everyone wants to see it and keeps the clutter off of this site.

Drop a comment, let me know what you think, although remember that design tweeks are still being made to the new site, be gentle. Things are changing, and I think its a good thing.

School…

I’m sitting here at school because basically I have nothing to do for another 3 hours. I have stuff to do but since the labs here suck I can’t’ do what I really need to do so I will be forced to do Math. It’s not that I hate math or anything like that; I just would rather do other things. School so far has been ok, nothing too exciting, same gang, and some new faces too. I don’t’ know how I’m going to keep everything in balance though, between Erin, school, and work it’s going to be hard, but I’m sure everything will work out. I think tonight I’m going to go over to Chris’ and chill for a bit. Good times. Thursday I[‘m going to do my charity work for the month, actually it’s more like for the summer, I’m doing a trivia bowl for the Literacy Coalition, fun fun fun. I’m ready to move on work is getting harder and harder to come by at the office, it’s time to move on and do something else. My mind is going 90MPH right now and I have no idea why. Anyway I guess I should run out to my car and get my math book and do something constructive with an otherwise boring afternoon. Oh yeah and it’s going to storm like a mug anytime now. BTW, those of you out there who have blogs and such, post a comment with your link and I’ll update mine, and those of you who have one that you don’t’ update, die… Ha Ha Ha! Seriously though I get really tired of just clicking through my daily blog links only to find that no one has updated. Of course I’m one to talk, I havent’ updated nearly enough this summer but I was busy, you are all here for my entertainment, entertain me dangit! I’m thinking about purchasing a new domain name so that when/if I ever actually start my web/tech side gig I will have a legit name to go under instead of just my real name domain. Sure it’s ok to own yourname.com but I want something original, unfortunately as you can see by the design of this blog, I am unoriginal and lazy, but hey what are you going to do. I have to find some plans for this weekend, I have to do some studying, but that shouldn’t’ take long and it’s too early yet in the school year to really worry about anything for a test or whatever.
