Stand up for yourself!

I think a great deal of my readers are probably college age, at least hope more than 8 of you are. In college there are always group projects, I mean if you’re taking 4 classes at least 3 have a group project of some kind. These vary from a simple paper all the way up to papers with presentations including in-depth research and possibly even outside independent research. Most of them are no big deal once you get started, its just a matter of doing the work. There is one problem I almost always encounter with group work, the quiet one.

The quiet one is the person in the group who doesn’t have an opinion, doesn’t make any contributions unless asked and usually won’t speak during the presentation. We are all getting along in our college careers here, some of us are graduating real soon, its time to stand up and speak out, prove that your education has gotten you something besides a large debt and a lame excuse for wearing sweatpants past 10am.

If you have an opinion in a group make it known, if you can contribute anythign for the greater good, do it. If you can’t do either then you’re not trying hard enough, get to work!

Today is also the start of a new category here “Soapbox” will feature my rants about stuff that probably doesn’t matter to most, it usually won’t be factually based most of the time and will probably entice you to either cheer or cry out in frustration, enjoy!

News of the day…

So I’m cruising the ‘net today, working on nothign as usual… Some interesting stories came up today though, here’s a quick peek:

Curious George co-editor found dead: MSNBC

I think it’s a bit odd that just days before the release of the movie this man who helped write several books and many of the short films about Curious George is found dead in trash bags at his Florida home… Something is up here.
Related note:
The Jack Johnson Curious George soundtrack is pretty good, give it a listen.

Walmart to open over 1,500 new stores in the coming years: MSNBC

They opened 341 last year and are expecting more than that this year. When will it end. I seriously cannot stand to see Walmart in every community. Millions of square feet of empty Walmarts are vacant useless to so many communities around the country because Walmart left for a better deal. Millions of people are without adequate, affordable health-care because of Walmart. When will it end?

New Muncie curfew to hold parents responsible WTHR

Muncie isn’t a large town, but its a college town with plenty of mischief to be caused. For the youth of the city that isn’t yet in college a new law will make parents know a little more about what their children are doing. I know that if I was faced with a fine of up to $2,500 I would know exactly where my child was and when he was in the house. Exceptions have been made to allow for school and religious events. But I think it’s about time that cities got more strict about parents being responsible for their children.

Blogger thinks of starting new category Here

I think I’ll call it “Get off my lawn.” After the supposed stereotype of old men who yell at those “damn kids” to get off my lawn. My soapbox if you will… Any thoughts?

The Old Blogs are complete!

I’ve been blogging for a long time. I’ve been at Life or Something Close for over 3 years, I’ve been at MB.com for just over 2 and half. Before that I had an old Blogger account and a LiveJournal account too. After much searching and looking I’ve finally brought them all here. I told you some of this before.
But now I can honestly tell you that everything I’ve ever blogged is here. I’ve created a separate category for those old posts on the right hand side, just scroll down and look for the Old Blog posts. From December of 2000, my first semester of college, all the way up to now I’ve blogged… Wow. I hope you enjoy them as I’ve posted them, typos and all.
Leave a comment or two if you’d like, I think it’s interesting to take a look back now and then.
