It’s coming

There’s 4-8′ coming tonight and tomorrow into tomorrow night even. I think we’ll all make it in OK in the morning but some time after lunch, I think it’ll start to get a little worse than we all believe.

I’m still excited.

Been working a bit on the Mission/Personal Statement stuff. 15 Questions should be coming out soon, stay tuned.
This weekend is full of promise, I can feel it, I can feel the anxiousness that’s inside me, nothing has really been planned or anything but there’s something there, just can’t put my finger on it.

I’m trying to figure out the tags situation here. I want to catalog but I wonder if search is enough sometimes. I’ll keep doing them but I’m not sure I want to go back and finish tagging everything for all time. I just noticed that the links on the tag cloud aren’t really working. Gotta work on that one, not sure where its generated so it’ll be something to look into. If you don’t see a tag cloud, don’t worry, it might be back soon.

Gotta go, must see TV tonight.

I’ve made it!

WordPress 2.3 is installed both here at LoSC and at work. It’s taken me most of the morning, I had some very outdated plugins here and the theme is less than helpful at being customizable. Work was a bit easier but I had to take every precaution with backups and the like.

Arguably the biggest new feature of 2.3 is the addition of native tagging. I love tags, they make it easy to get the gist of something or relate it to something else. However, 2.3 did it wrong. It’s not intuitive, importing is in a weird spot ( Dashboard -> Manage -> Import) and management must be done basically through another plugin, Tag Managing Thing. The plugin works amazingly well. Tags support is lacking in the new version as well. Using this page and this page to learn about the tag cloud and tag features I found it hard to understand that in order to exclude tags from the cloud you must know the tag-id (term id) which isn’t easily accessed without the plugin and some checking of the address link of the tag you just “edited.” Confused? Yeah I was too, like I said it took me quite a long time.

I’m happy that the new version is out, I’ve been anticipating it for a while. If only things could have gone smoother and been more intuitive. Next version in 120 days (give or take) pending security releases in the mean time, I would predict a 2.3.1 release within the next 10 days at the latest. OSS is amazing sometimes, tons of accomplishment with so little time between major releases.
