A week later basically

I haven’t written anything in my book the past few days so I’m not even sure I remember much of what went on the last week or so.

Work has been pretty slow lately so I’m not sure there anything exciting there for now. I did work from 230am – 2pm on Thursday, had a deadline to meet and wanted to get everything done on time. That made Friday a short day too which was nice.

Saturday Erin and I headed down to Seymour to see Greg at camp, we had fun just being outside and seeing new things. erin was absolutely thrilled at the chance she had to go down the zip line. She was grinning the rest of the day. We did get to see some good storms on the way home too, we stayed dry but it was moving towards us as we were coming around the east side of Indy.

Sunday I got two big things accomplished. First, I washed my truck. Washed it good. I took it to the do-it-yourself place and powerwashed the bugs and junk off the front. Then I took it back home and got the bucket and sponges out and went to town cleaning it. After that I hand dried it with a chamois and then let it air dry the last bit. Then I worked on the tires and wheels and got the glass sparkling clean. I waxed it after that and Rain-X’d the glass. Looked perfect. I went to the grocery store after that, of course it rained just enough to spot everything up. I didn’t rain at our house, but 6 blocks away at the grocery store it did. Nice.

After that, I was on the couch doing nothing. It was wonderful.

Monday I went to Ohio for work and relaxed at home a bit.

Today was another lackluster day at work and I’m just chilling tonight.

Sanding…

I sanded at work today. All day. Nothing but running a palm sander to catch up on a big project that’s gotta be ready for Monday. Some window sill thing that’s going into a school. I think from time to time about the stuff that I do and how long it will last.

When I make a kitchen I think that it could be around for 10 years or so, most people probably change their countertops more than that. Things that we do for institutions though probably last a lot longer, maybe 20 years. So when I think that when I’m nearly 50 some of this stuff could still be around I’m totally amazed by it. Think of all the children that will pass by my work every day and for all those years, most won’t notice anything about it probably, but still I find it amazing how long it will be there and how many could see it.

I think tomorrow I’m going to be outta work early enough to get some work done around The Green, maybe the leaves in the yard and the gutters, borrowing a ladder and leaf blower in hopes of getting it all taken care of, chili night tomorrow too, kinda excited.

I’m tired

The last few weeks were supposed to be my vacation.  I wasn’t planning on going any where or even doing that much really. I wanted to get some organizing and cleaning type stuff done. I got one day of that done, some filing done of bills and that type of stuff. Then I spent the next few days at the hospital, missed the holidays for the most part and spent the next few days trying to get back in a rhythm. I don’t think I’ve found it yet really.

Tomorrow I have to be at work early, it’s the first Monday of the month and the first official day back of the new year, meeting time. I think I could go to bed now and still be tired in the morning.

I feel like I’m just spinning my wheels lately. I get up, and before I know it, it’s time to get ready and leave again. They say there’s a snow storm coming in the next few days, I think I need a snow day to relax.

Today I got up and headed over to Erin’s to put together a bookcase. I got over halfway done, there were two busted pieces. After 15 minutes on the phone Target decided to take it back and give me a new one. Now that’s sitting in the back of my truck, tomorrow I should have time to work on it again.

I’m tired of writing.

A huge Midol?

Just a quick post while I’m at lunch today:

  • Facebook failed me again, it’s too bothersome for me lately. I don’t want to find out which Disney Princess I am, I don’t care about a knighthood or a poke. Writing on my wall is enough for me, the messages? Please I have to check my email to see I have a message then go to the message to read it. How about this: EMAIL ME! Also if you don’t already, get a website, you find me here, I’ll find you there. Inspired almost entirely by Dan Klass.
  • Is the whole world PMS’ing today? Seriously everyone has an attitude or is at least in a bad mood and I’m about sick of it all. I just about can’t stand to be near annoy today. They don’t listen and when they talk it’s all attitude. Get over it people, it’s Monday. I can’t remember the last Monday that I woke up early (45 minutes early), ate breakfast before taking a shower and even had a cup of coffee while reading through the news online. I was happy this morning dangit! Stop ruining it!

Just another day at the office I suppose…

What do you want for lunch?

So its another Monday at work, busy but not entirely so. I’m working, but not entirely so. I’m debating the merits of the Roomba and power consumption slightly on Twitter, keeping up on the news and jamming to some old tunes.

ketchup.jpgWe had an install in Kokomo this morning. Since the crew was coming back around lunchtime that meant it was the perfect opportunity to get Louie’s for lunch. Bakes. There’s really no good way to describe it, a hamburger rolled like a hot dog, simmered in sauce, put on a bun with chili sauce, mustard and onions, served hot and greasy. The true measure of a good bake is when the grease goes all the way through the wax paper and stains the counter. Mmm-hmmm, that’s good stuff!

I’m taken back to the days. Those days. Working downtown and walking down to Louie’s old store on my lunch. Passing the lawyers and bankers to sit at the counter and be served by Louie’s granddaughters who were either just old enough or nearly so, staring just a little too long at them. The times getting a coke in a bottle and spending less than five bucks on lunch. I’m not talking about 40 years ago, I’m talking about 4 or 5 years ago. Those were the days.

So it’s late afternoon now, I’ll be leaving for the game soon and then to relax on the couch. It’s been an eventful day, I’m full of bakes and wonderment about the looming “snow storm” we have coming.

Last time there was “a huge freakin’ blizzard coming,” it turned out to be about 2 inches of heavy wet slush, I went to work and school was only delayed a few hours. Tonight is another of the same, instead of making huge preparations, I’m planning on being at work on time, only taking a few minutes to clean off the car and not worrying about traffic being snarled across the countryside.

Dear Mr. Weatherman,
Make up your mind about the snow, is it coming, how much, when, and when will it stop?

Thanks, you’re friend
Mike

I’ve posted long enough today I suppose. I’m not saying I’m going to try to post more, I’d just end up not posting and looking like a liar. This way I only look like a slacker.

1000 Posts!

I’ve done it, 1000 posts. I’ve posted my thoughts here more times that I can think. I’ve preached, praised and propped. I just wanted to say thanks for reading this over all the years, talking with people about what I’ve written or seeing your comments make it all worthwhile.

Sadly I must take a vacation now though, Spring break starts Monday, I’m ending the posting streak, 184 days in a row. That’s over half the year that I’ve posted every day. The last post probably for the week will be a message from my cell on Monday that I’ve arrived safely in MIA. Internet access might be hard to come by on the ship or in Mexico…
I hope you enjoy the week off from reading, I promise to have a huge post when i get back complete with great stories and pictures. Catch you all next week!

It’s almost here

Well the time is almost upon us. Spring Break is here. Last night at about 830 it was final, the last class was dismissed. A quote from my favorite movie says “Just a few bumps and we’re haulin’ the mail” I’m at work now, heading to Kokomo for dinner with Kyle tonight and then packing and finding everything I need tomorrow. Sunday I’ll pick up any last minute details and head to Indy. Monday morning I’ll be on a plane, in the afternoon I’ll be on the boat. Life doesn’t get much better right now…
