Comcast = Pimp?

Why?
Why?

So I understand that Valentine’s Day is coming up really soon. I understand that there are plenty of people who won’t celebrate, either because they don’t like pink hearts and chocolate or because they are alone. I am neither so I’m not sure I understand everything involved with this ad.

Comcast, my cable provider (TV and Internet) has assumed that I will be one of the latter people and would like to use my Comcast Voice Service to try to hook up with people that I will meet on eHarmony. Am I getting that right?

They are providing a free communication venue for the chance of a romantic interlude, doesn’t this make them pimps? And thereby isn’t this advertisement illegal in most areas of the country?

I don’t quite understand this ad really, why I got it and why they sent it to anyone really.

I’m crawling back under my desk for the rest of the day, I have a head/chest/sinus/ear thing that’s making me want to smash grapes with my forehead on a concrete wall.

Vicks might make kids sicker

Vicks VapoRub, the menthol salve used to soothe generations of congested kids, may actually make some little ones worse, a new study suggests.

The strong-smelling ointment often dabbed under noses or rubbed on the soles of feet can be an irritant, increasing the production of mucus and decreasing how fast it’s cleared, potentially causing dangerous breathing problems in infants and very young children.

via There’s the rub: Vicks might make kids sicker – Cold and flu- msnbc.com.

Always something to look forward to. I remember we used to use this stuff for anything, cough, cold, runny nose, mashed potato topping in a pinch. It was good for anything you needed and now, like everything else in the world, it’s going to kill your kids. Moderation is the key people, don’t bathe the child in it and follow the directions.

I can feel it comin’…

All around me I can feel it. My forehead is clammy, my throat is vaguely sore, my sinus cavity feels like its going to explode. I haven’t slept well for the past two nights. I’m getting sick.

Erin spent most of last week in a daze from this thing, a crazy sinus infection/cold from hell from which there is no reprieve. I can’t wait.

Overall life has been nothing short of stressful, there’s not a whole lot I particularly want to talk about right here right now. I’m sure none of it has helped my health situation though.

I had grand ideas of a post tonight, I don’t think I’m into it right now.

On a cold and rainy night

The startI had the opportunity last night to witness history. The Tipton boys basketball team won a sectional for the first time since 2001. They not only won the title but they did so at game that I can only describe as absolutely amazing. Tipton versus Oak Hill on a cold rainy night that was miserable for everyone except the Blue Devil faithful.

The game started at 730, living in town but not living there long enough to understand the gravity of the game I arrived at 710. Not a great move. I think I parked farther away from the school than I live. After a long walk through the rain and cold wind I arrived, dropped my five bucks and proceeded to find a seat in the very small feeling gym. As you can see, the place was packed. Both teams were bringing all their fans with them.

The game started off great, the Tipton star, Elston was on fire at the on set. Both teams were truly playing their hearts out on that floor though and the game remained very close. It was like watching a tennis match, back and forth all through the first half. In fact the lead for either team never surpassed about 5. The refs were calling a lot of fouls, most of which were legit but it did create some interesting language to be used in the stands, it also made the coaches use their bench pretty early and really made it exciting to me.

I sat on the visitors side, balcony, across from the home cheer block (student section). Basically I sat with all the late comers and Oak Hill grandparents.

High school basketball didn’t seem this exciting when I was in school. My school didn’t really have a great team most of the time but even so, this was electrifying. The crowd was so loud during time outs and bad calls that you couldn’t hear the horns or what the refs were calling. At half time no one left their seats. I’m not sure if that’s because no one wanted to lose their seats in the packed house or because one side didn’t want to show weakness for a bathroom break or a water/popcorn run. Champions

The second half was even closer, never more than a point or two difference. Even the stars of each team couldn’t seem to break out and run up the score. This was going to have to be a team effort. As the clock wound down though, fatigue was setting in, at least on the court anyway, the fans were still loud as ever, if not more so.

In the end both teams played a great game, OHHS shouldn’t feel bad about the loss, they played with everything they had and Tipton just had a bit left at the end.

I was excited to be a part of the game, no matter how small my part was. It’s starting to feel more and more like home.

Why is the library so F-ing hot!

I just got to the library about 15 minutes ago and honestly I just got on the computer. You see I went to the lab to meet Ben so we could sit next to eachother, of course the computer I pick is one that isn’t working. I’m at a different computer now, it works obviously but the library is approximately the same temperature of the sun right now. Why is it so hot? I have no idea, it’s only about 50 outside right now, definitely no sun to warm the place. What the F!?

I think the heat is getting to me, making me more and more mad basically. The good news I guess is that tonight it’s going to get down into the 20s and then down into the … well its supposed to be 5, is that like the 1’s? Either way it’s going to be freaking cold soon. After the thunderstorms and the snow of course… Indiana, what a place….

Just an email

The cold bites at your soul
Like a distant memory rekindled

The wind whips through your hair
The demon is alive

The chill grips your bones
The fire still burns within

In the fridgid cold, life comes to a stand still
But the memories always remain…

I hate the winter, I hate the holidays. The cold, the wind, the snow. Mother nature can never compare to the kind of destruction and suffering that people can cause. Things were well and they are no more…

Old Oaken Bucket Pics

Ben jumping over the fire The great classic rivalry in Indiana was contested yet again on Saturday, of course I’m talking about the IU/Purdue game otherwise known as the Old Oaken Bucket game. We all headed down to Bloomington bright and early, of course traffic didn’t let us get there as early as we would have liked, Erin, John, and I missed the first half of the first quarter. No biggie though. It was a nice day, we all had fun and of course IU got their butts kicked 41-14. There’s always next year right? After half time half the people left so we headed down and got better seats, some fans eh? Here’s some pics, links go to the larger versions.

The pics on the left are as follows:
