Wow… What a day

Today is the day before the big *new* snow storm comes. They are saying another 6-9″ again. We got about 7″ last weekend so I’m not sure where it’s all going to go.

I went to Dayton again this morning, another load that went out with plenty of lifting to unload. I think I hurt my back a bit. It was a nice sunny day though so I did actually enjoy the drive.

After work got new tires on the truck and Erin’s car, got a great deal at Tire Barn and we were in and out pretty fast.

I’m gonna go check out the latest weather gossip, watch some tube and head to bed.

Take the hint

I recieved a phone call the other day, one that I was too busy to deal with at the time. One that I thought I had dealt with before. I think I’ve dealt with it now.

You see, apparently when you give any kind of personal information at an auto dealership you are doomed to hear from them over and over again no matter how many times you tell them that you are not interested. About 2 years ago, in a fit of frustration over the car I owned then, I stopped in to look at a new Dodge crossover. I took a test drive, looked into financing and even had my trade-in appraised to see if the deal would work out. Sadly, it wouldn’t, I just couldn’t afford the car at time and told the salesperson that it would take a while before I could buy another car.

Six months or so later I got a call from the salesperson, asking if I’d like to come in and check out the new deals that they had, new incentives and such. I told her that I had decided to keep the car I had and wasn’t interested at all in any new car.

Another six months passed, another phone call, from the same salesperson, I told her this time that I had moved, which was true and would not likely be purchasing a car from that dealership at any time. i thanked her for her diligence and asked that she remove me from any lists she might have and not to contact me any more.

Then this week came, a phone call came while I was extremely busy at work. I was in the middle of something very important but took the call anyway. I was instantly infuriated when I heard who was on the other end. The dealership. A new person though, informing me that the salesperson from before was gone and that they had new offers for me. I explained that I wasn’t interested but this new person persisted, I explained again that I was no longer living near them and did nnot want to hear any more and hung up. After the work incident was taken care of I left for lunch and decided to make a phone call.

I called the dealership back, asked for the  business manager. I was placed on hold for somewhere near 5 minutes, told that the only “manager” there was the Finance Manager. At this point I was entirely infuriated, I asked for “the highest person on the totem pole who could resolve the harassing phone calls I was receiving.” The receptionist obliged that she had been the one to make the calls. I explained exactly that i did not want to receive any more calls from them and asked to be removed from their lists and hung up.

The moral of this story, when customer, especially potential ones ask you to leave them alone, do it. In this time when every sale is critical to your business and its survival, make sure the customers you have are satisfied, both by given them enough attention and enough space when they need it. The ones who will want to do business with you will come back time and time again, some just need time and space to put themselves in place to do so. The other moral: Don’t give out your real phone number to people whom you never intent to interact with again.

A few confessions

I just want to get a few things out in the open. I was just sitting around thinking about PostSecret the other day. I sort of made my list of “secrets” they aren’t that profound really. They are just things I thought of and thought I would share.

I abuse things and forget about others. Here’s my list:

  • My iPhone is scratched on the back, even though it’s been in a case since 5 minutes after I took it out of the box. Too much dust and dirt at work.
  • My car has 134,563 miles on it. I’ve owned it for just over 3 and one half years.
  • I used 2,219 minutes last month on my cell. Along with 616 text messages.
  • I’ve had a huge dent in my fender for over a year. The tire hangs out a bit the dent is so large.
  • My last laptop computer had the paint worn off the keys on a few of the letters. None to report on this one, yet.
  • My laptop was scratched across the top in less than a month.
  • My MacBook is held together with super glue, electrical tape and a binder clip.

Others, not so much:

  • I’ve owned dumbbells in one form or another for over 3 years. I last used them around Christmas time.
  • I’ve never cleaned my oven.
  • Nor under my refrigerator.
  • I have aluminum foil on my TV antennae so that I can get HDTV from one extra channel. It’s draped across my sliding door for strength.
  • I really need to wash my bathroom rugs, 3 months is too long. I just hate the sound of them in the dryer.
  • I have things in my freezer from when I moved into the apartment. Freezer burn doesn’t go away.
  • I use the same bath towel every day to dry off, unless I’m feeling particularly dirty and then I’ll get a new one every day. I flip back and forth on this one.
  • Combing/Brushing my hair, has never been a forte of mine. Last accomplished: December 27th.

Is it that interesting? No. Just something to post.

My car tried to run away yesterday

What a weekend! Out with the gang (Erin, Ali, and Kyle) Friday and Saturday nights. Friday was dinner, driving and swimming followed by a movie. Saturday was TV, talking and swimming/hot tubbing. The gang is building again it seems. That always makes me happy, alone time and “us” time is great, but I need group time too now and then. The summer holds promise for some interesting times.

Yesterday was a day though, one that I was glad to be done with. I woke up in a bad mood from being out late the night before and it went down hill from there. Thankfully and regrettably I had the house to myself in the afternoon, I planned to clean up my room, the car, and just chill for a while. It quickly turned ugly. I let the battery on my car run down completely while cleaning it out and getting distracted with laundry. Dead, not even enough to make the engine turn over slightly. Crap.

Normally we have all kinds of odd tools and stuff around the house, not a battery charger though. Since no one else was home I had no one there to jump start my car either. I called and found that I had access to my uncle’s car but I had one small problem since my car was in my garage and no one was there to help guide it out. I got his car in my driveway and then thought about how I would get my car out. It’s a straight shot out of the garage into the driveway and the driveway isn’t that slanted, a quick push out the door and then jump in to stop it and then a quick jump and I’d be on my way. Of course it sounded all too easy.

I lined my car up to push it out, just a little turn to the steering wheel to square it up. A small push got me to the edge of the driveway/garage then another push would take the back wheels over the small bump that separates the two structures. One more push from the front wheels and I’d be set. I lined up on the front of the car, I couldn’t push with the door open or I’d risk ripping off the door of the car or screwing up the side of the garage door opening. I pushed just enough to get over the bump, the car took off down the driveway. I mean it went a lot faster that I thought it would. I quickly ran around to the side of the car, jumped into it while it was increasing in speed, slammed on the non-power brakes and threw it into gear. The car lurched to a stop nearly at the sidewalk by the edge of the driveway. I was 5 feet from the busiest road in my neighborhood. Terrific.

I hooked up the jumper cables and proceeded to jump the car, of course that didn’t go that well either. My battery was so dead that I couldn’t just hook up the cables and go, no I had to wait 10 minutes to get the thing charged up. Geez, not my day. Knowing what I know about cars (not that much probably) I knew that I had to let it run for a while so the alternator could charge up the battery again. I moved my uncle’s car back to his house and locked it up again.

A quick trip to Peru would help charge it up I thought. I took it to AutoZone to see if they’d test it out to make sure that I just ran it down and there really wasn’t a bigger problem with the car. The battery hadn’t fully charged during the 15 minute ride to the store and the guy said that I could have a problem with the battery. I had the cables in my trunk still and thought instead of buying a new $60-80 battery I would chance it for the evening and see how it would work out.

Back home to shower and get ready to go to Kokomo. The car started like a champ on my way out to hang out. I had the cables I was ready. We did our thing at Kyle’s house and headed home a little earlier than I thought we would, but late enough I suppose. No problems.

Today I headed back to AutoZone and received a clean bill of health for my battery. All is well again.

For a moment yesterday I imagined my car rolling down the driveway and crashing into a slow moving Chevy, that would kill my insurance payments for sure. Luckily all is well and the guy said I really have nothing to worry about. I’m still buying a battery charger this week, just in case.

Day 3

Another boring day. Went to work, took erin to the body shop to get her car worked on. Went to the “other job” worked for a few hours, crapped out a miracle and made them all happy. Went to school, sat around for a bit, went to class. Remember all that cryign I did about this paper I had to write for marketing, yeah totally didn’t have to talk about it today… CRAP!

After school, Ben and I got a free pizza from Domino’s, something about filling out an app for a credit card then you get a free pie. Ben did it, used all kinds of bogus info, we got pizza, it’s all good. We went to starbucks after that and played poker with the guys. good times… i’m tired

Professional Driver…

…on a closed course. I wanna be that guy. I want my entire job to consist of driving around in a brand new, maybe not even released, car and take it through water covered roads or through the outback. I want to be that guy who is crusing along at break-neck speeds weaving in and out of cones and then slamming on the breaks to miss the family of ducks walking across the road. Just thinking again…

School…

I’m sitting here at school because basically I have nothing to do for another 3 hours. I have stuff to do but since the labs here suck I can’t’ do what I really need to do so I will be forced to do Math. It’s not that I hate math or anything like that; I just would rather do other things. School so far has been ok, nothing too exciting, same gang, and some new faces too. I don’t’ know how I’m going to keep everything in balance though, between Erin, school, and work it’s going to be hard, but I’m sure everything will work out. I think tonight I’m going to go over to Chris’ and chill for a bit. Good times. Thursday I[‘m going to do my charity work for the month, actually it’s more like for the summer, I’m doing a trivia bowl for the Literacy Coalition, fun fun fun. I’m ready to move on work is getting harder and harder to come by at the office, it’s time to move on and do something else. My mind is going 90MPH right now and I have no idea why. Anyway I guess I should run out to my car and get my math book and do something constructive with an otherwise boring afternoon. Oh yeah and it’s going to storm like a mug anytime now. BTW, those of you out there who have blogs and such, post a comment with your link and I’ll update mine, and those of you who have one that you don’t’ update, die… Ha Ha Ha! Seriously though I get really tired of just clicking through my daily blog links only to find that no one has updated. Of course I’m one to talk, I havent’ updated nearly enough this summer but I was busy, you are all here for my entertainment, entertain me dangit! I’m thinking about purchasing a new domain name so that when/if I ever actually start my web/tech side gig I will have a legit name to go under instead of just my real name domain. Sure it’s ok to own yourname.com but I want something original, unfortunately as you can see by the design of this blog, I am unoriginal and lazy, but hey what are you going to do. I have to find some plans for this weekend, I have to do some studying, but that shouldn’t’ take long and it’s too early yet in the school year to really worry about anything for a test or whatever.
