A long weekend comes to an end

As I’m sure most of you have heard the Midwest was hit by a pretty good winter storm this weekend. I went into Friday fully expecting the worst, no power, high winds and tons of snow. Thankfully not all of that came true. The power stayed on, the winds didn’t last that long really, and we had about 8 inches of snow, most of which fell overnight on Saturday night but had a good coating of ice underneath.

I spent part of Friday eagerly awaiting the storm. I was like a kid on Christmas Eve. The anticipation of it all, the mystery of what was yet to come. Even the meteorologists weren’t sure what was coming. I wondered how bad it would be, as I said, not that bad. But the wonderment that I felt while waiting for all to start was unbearable. I stayed up too late on Friday waiting on it, a drivel of snow and not much else. On Saturday morning the dusting fianlly gave way to a few inches and not much else. I stayed up late Saturday watching the ice fall, waiting for the change to the heavy snow that was expected. It didn’t come, I went to bed. I woke up this morning to a fresh blanket of snow, underneath the ice lurked. I figured yet another day of staying inside and doing nothing awaited me.

It’s been a long weekend though. Friday consisted of shopping, dinner, and way too many people out and around for my own sanity. Saturday I was lazy most of the day, I had no plans with Erin because we expected the snow to start much earlier than it did. I cleaned the house a bit and watched Waitress and Sicko. Neither were great, but at least now I’ve seen them. I didn’t really leave the house at all on Saturday.

It was nice, was being the operative word. I didn’t even bother getting dressed, just lounged around and did nothing in particular. Today was different. I’m getting a bit lonely and cabin feverish. I went out today, I spent a good hour or so cleaning the 8 inches of snow off my car and then chipping through the half inch of ice that was under it. I drove around town a bit, checked out the roads for work tomorrow and then went to Marsh to pick up some much needed supplies, Swiss Rolls in particular. I love those things.

I’ve been doing some thinking lately. I feel like I live 6 inches inside the walls of my apartment. It’s just not quite home yet. I feel like I live in it, not “in” it really. There’s something about it that’s not quite right. I’m going to take my vacation time that is coming up over Christmas to paint. I’m planning a color scheme of a bright green, a cadet blue (lighter though) and a soft gray with whiteish-gray as my main color on the walls. Basically each room gets a color on one wall, with the whiteish-gray on the other 3. The hallway is going to be the tough one, probably something neutral. I’ve also decided that I’m going to fix my bar. I have a small half-wall dividing my kitchen from my living room. The bar is small, 7 inches wide. Just wide enough for your keys and wallet but not much else really. I’m going to expand it a bit, make it a bit wider, add a small area for eating at the end. Still working on color but I’m pretty sure it’ll be something a bit more colorful than the plain bright white that it is now.

It’s been a long weekend and honestly I’m ready for the week to start. I’m ready for it now. I’m heading to bed soon and when tomorrow is here, the week will start anew, back to the hustle and bustle of regular life. I have 11 days off coming soon. I wonder if I’ll survive?

A long weekend

Thanksgiving weekend has nearly ended. 4 days of nothing and it was wonderful. I spent Thursday cooking and hanging out with the fam. Nothing out of the ordinary really, same old crap. I did go home early enough to watch the Colts game though, a victory that I honestly wasn’t sure would happen but they came through and pulled it off.

Friday I thought about getting up early to head out for the Black Friday sales, I slept in instead. It was nice to just lounge around for a bit in the morning. I did finally head to town though, got one Christmas present bought and then went to the bank. I was home around 130.  Erin came over later in the day and we headed out for the evening.

We went to Sears, honestly it wasn’t so bad. Sure there were people around, but I didn’t think the crowds were too bad and the cashiers seemed to be moving along fast enough. After that we headed to Texas Roadhouse to meet up with Kyle. A good dinner with a good conversation is always welcome.

There are times that we get so caught up in the world going on around us I think sometimes we forget the little things that make us happy. A nice slow dinner, a great conversation about everything and nothing. Sometimes just being there with friends is much more important than just about anything else that we think is “important” in the world.

I spent Saturday cleaning, Erin came over for dinner and we watched the first two Indiana Jones movies. Just relaxing.

Today I’m watching Season 3 of The Office and doing as little as possible besides laundry so I have clean clothes for work tomorrow.

That’s the weekend. Nothing essentially but it was so rewarding and felt so good too.

Because I can’t seem to focus now

Since I seem to be unable to focus this morning I spent some time looking around on Twitter. Found this, did it, no surprise really. It’s going to be a long day, I’ll post about the weekend later, I just want to have a snack and go to bed now. I should have eaten breakfast.

My car tried to run away yesterday

What a weekend! Out with the gang (Erin, Ali, and Kyle) Friday and Saturday nights. Friday was dinner, driving and swimming followed by a movie. Saturday was TV, talking and swimming/hot tubbing. The gang is building again it seems. That always makes me happy, alone time and “us” time is great, but I need group time too now and then. The summer holds promise for some interesting times.

Yesterday was a day though, one that I was glad to be done with. I woke up in a bad mood from being out late the night before and it went down hill from there. Thankfully and regrettably I had the house to myself in the afternoon, I planned to clean up my room, the car, and just chill for a while. It quickly turned ugly. I let the battery on my car run down completely while cleaning it out and getting distracted with laundry. Dead, not even enough to make the engine turn over slightly. Crap.

Normally we have all kinds of odd tools and stuff around the house, not a battery charger though. Since no one else was home I had no one there to jump start my car either. I called and found that I had access to my uncle’s car but I had one small problem since my car was in my garage and no one was there to help guide it out. I got his car in my driveway and then thought about how I would get my car out. It’s a straight shot out of the garage into the driveway and the driveway isn’t that slanted, a quick push out the door and then jump in to stop it and then a quick jump and I’d be on my way. Of course it sounded all too easy.

I lined my car up to push it out, just a little turn to the steering wheel to square it up. A small push got me to the edge of the driveway/garage then another push would take the back wheels over the small bump that separates the two structures. One more push from the front wheels and I’d be set. I lined up on the front of the car, I couldn’t push with the door open or I’d risk ripping off the door of the car or screwing up the side of the garage door opening. I pushed just enough to get over the bump, the car took off down the driveway. I mean it went a lot faster that I thought it would. I quickly ran around to the side of the car, jumped into it while it was increasing in speed, slammed on the non-power brakes and threw it into gear. The car lurched to a stop nearly at the sidewalk by the edge of the driveway. I was 5 feet from the busiest road in my neighborhood. Terrific.

I hooked up the jumper cables and proceeded to jump the car, of course that didn’t go that well either. My battery was so dead that I couldn’t just hook up the cables and go, no I had to wait 10 minutes to get the thing charged up. Geez, not my day. Knowing what I know about cars (not that much probably) I knew that I had to let it run for a while so the alternator could charge up the battery again. I moved my uncle’s car back to his house and locked it up again.

A quick trip to Peru would help charge it up I thought. I took it to AutoZone to see if they’d test it out to make sure that I just ran it down and there really wasn’t a bigger problem with the car. The battery hadn’t fully charged during the 15 minute ride to the store and the guy said that I could have a problem with the battery. I had the cables in my trunk still and thought instead of buying a new $60-80 battery I would chance it for the evening and see how it would work out.

Back home to shower and get ready to go to Kokomo. The car started like a champ on my way out to hang out. I had the cables I was ready. We did our thing at Kyle’s house and headed home a little earlier than I thought we would, but late enough I suppose. No problems.

Today I headed back to AutoZone and received a clean bill of health for my battery. All is well again.

For a moment yesterday I imagined my car rolling down the driveway and crashing into a slow moving Chevy, that would kill my insurance payments for sure. Luckily all is well and the guy said I really have nothing to worry about. I’m still buying a battery charger this week, just in case.

I feel like my head is the size of Montana

I have a cold. Not a little cold mind you, a huge one, one where the snot just pours out of your head like Niagra. I was fine last night actually, I just woke up this morning and felt like shite. This sucks, I’ve been at school all day feeling like crap too. I told some Sudafed 24, but that hasn’t helped in the least, it didn’t even help for one hour. It’s been a long week and it’s only just half over. The weekend had better bring some repreve.

Did someone slip me a rufie or something?

Man, I’m just now getting started with today adn I can tell you right now that I think all of last night is really a blur to me. Like I was on something or something.
I know we played poker, I’m pretty sure that I lost and I’m positive that we played way too late. But we were learning a new way to play so that made it take a while we didn’t want to go out early so we kept folding (John).
I spent the rest of yesterday procrastinating about studying for my Ops Mgmt class. Yeah and then when I did start studying, freaking people kept interupting me. Grr…
It rained all day yesterday, from early early in the morning until sometime very very early this morning. It sucked. We need a fire.
Friday Erin and I hung out in Castleton, I saw and old friend of a friend. Kinda cool I guess.
Saturday I got up late, stayed at home by myself and then finally went out with Erin, Ben and Franki for Chili’s and a movie. MindHunters is dumb. Don’t rent it.
Yeah that’s my weekend… I’d better get to school and stop rambling aimlessly.

Spending it like I’ve got it…

I went through $20 today I don’t remember how. I woke up got dressed, went to class, bought a coke for $1 on the way in. Went to lunch at BK for $5, came back to school chilled til lab, bought yet another coke after lab, $1. Candy: $1.25. Took Bio test, got 94%. Went to Long John’s, got chicken, more coke. $5. So that’s like a total of: $13.25… Where’s my other $6.75? I have no idea seriously. Secondly, I drink way too much coke when I’m at school without my water bottle and stuff… Gotta get that thing back from erin so my kidneys don’t like fall out or something in the next year. Today was actually pretty good though. I mean I got a 94% on a bio test, what else could you ask for? I dunno… I’m watching MNF and supposed to be doing some math HW, but I’m totally lost for some reason, it’s amazing how not understanding the terminology in a class can really hinder your efforts to study. Oh well off to the races… I have to plan the weekend that isn’t’ here yet…
